Context

Maselis, a leading European grain supplier, tasked us with creating a fast, efficient, and cost-effective maize flour loading system. In just 9 months, we delivered a 14-cell bulk station (1,800 m³) enabling direct, hygienic truck loading.

Small footprint, large impact

Maselis wanted to expand its existing factory at the port in Roeselare with an innovative bulk station, and to do so in the very short term, with the smallest possible footprint. The goal was to get the maize flour into the silos as quickly as possible and develop an accelerated loading method. SCE designed, produced and installed the bulk station, taking into account the existing factory and the needs of the customer. We opted for smooth-wall silos with butterfly hoppers to enable the maize flour to drain out optimally.

From design plan to installation

Our partner business Bifes was responsible for the process design. The engineers designed an optimal process, sought out the best machines and integrated them in the right way. After all the parts had been produced, an experienced SCE assembly team installed the bulk station in accordance with the drawings we designed. The team had to build on a small area, which presented an extra challenge as trucks needed to be able to come and go constantly.

Fast and trouble-free start-up

Despite all the challenges, we managed to install the solution and the building in just nine months – a good example of what SCE and Bifes can achieve together in terms of storage and transport. At the beginning of 2020 the bulk station went into production, and Maselis is ‘very satisfied’ with the project. Our customer praised the concept and detailed design, the way in which the station was built, the assembly team and the effective follow-up by the project manager. ‘Everything was done neatly and tidily and as agreed.’
