Sustainability
As the global population grows, so does the need for more efficient food production. At SCE, We believe that a more sustainable food chain starts with better infrastructure. That’s why we are dedicated to building smart process buildings that make operations more efficient and reduce waste.
1Food loss and waste, a global challenge we can tackle
According to the FAO’s State of Food and Agriculture report, around 13 percent of the world’s food is lost after harvest and before it reaches retail outlets. An additional 17 percent is wasted at the retail and consumer levels. FAO estimates that the food lost and wasted each year could feed 1.26 billion people. Beyond hunger, food loss and waste account for 8 to 10 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to climate change and extreme weather events such as droughts and floods.
The urgency to reduce food loss and waste is also recognised by the United Nations and is reflected in the Sustainable Development Goals, specifically Goal 12.3.
2Better storage leads to less waste
Because our customers are primarily active in the food and feed industries, we think it is our responsibility to do our part, however small it may seem, to help reduce global food loss.
We believe that a more sustainable food chain starts with better infrastructure. That’s why we are dedicated to building smart process buildings that reduce waste by increasing hygiene, reducing contamination and improving overall efficiency.
